Expert Sage Duo Temp Pro repairs and servicing

If your Duo Temp Pro sounds like it is trying to run but little or no water comes through the group head, first make sure the water tank is full and pushed fully into position.

Then check whether water will come through the steam wand using the hot-water function.

If neither the group head nor the steam wand produces water, the problem is likely to be somewhere earlier in the machine’s main water path rather than being isolated to the group head.

A thorough descale can be worth trying if the flow has gradually become weaker, but if the machine has suddenly lost all water flow or the pump is simply running without moving water, repeatedly operating it is unlikely to clear every possible fault.

A blocked steam tip is one of the first things to rule out.

Allow the machine to cool, then use the small pin on the cleaning tool supplied with the machine to clear the opening in the steam tip. If necessary, remove the tip using the spanner built into the cleaning tool and clean it thoroughly before refitting it.

If the tip is clean but you still have very weak steam, no steam, or no hot water either, the problem may be further inside the machine rather than at the wand itself.

The Duo Temp Pro should direct water differently depending on whether you have selected brewing, steam or hot water.

If you select coffee but most or all of the water comes through the steam wand instead of the group head, something inside the machine may not be directing the water correctly.

This can be caused by a blockage or an internal valve or control fault.

It is a different symptom from simply having a blocked group head because the machine is moving water, just to the wrong place.

Some pump noise is completely normal, but a sudden change to a much louder or continuous pump noise can be a useful clue that something is wrong.

First check that the water tank is full and securely fitted.

If the tank is fitted correctly and the noise is accompanied by weak or no water flow, the pump may be struggling against a restriction or there may be another fault within the water system.

If possible, take a short video showing the noise and which function you were using when it occurred.

In many cases, yes.

The Duo Temp Pro is relatively simple compared with Sage machines that also contain grinders, touchscreens and automatic milk systems, which means many common pump, water-flow, steam and leak faults can still make economic sense to repair.

Age on its own does not necessarily make the machine uneconomical. The overall condition and the actual fault matter more.
