Barista Pro FAQs
Why is my Sage Barista Pro not pumping water?
If your Barista Pro sounds like it is trying to pump but little or no water comes out, first check which outlets are affected.
Make sure the water tank is full and seated correctly. If you use a water filter, remove it temporarily and try the machine once without it, as a dry or restricted filter can prevent the machine from drawing water properly.
If the group head, steam wand and hot-water outlet are all affected, the problem is more likely to be somewhere within the machineโs main water system.
If hot water and steam still work normally but the group head does not, the fault may instead be affecting the part of the machine that directs water towards the group head.
A descale is worth trying if the water flow has gradually become weaker, but repeatedly running descale cycles will not resolve every type of blockage, valve or pump-related fault.
Why does my Barista Pro stop after a few seconds and beep three times?
If your Barista Pro starts brewing, steaming or dispensing hot water and then stops after around three to five seconds with three beeps, the machine may not be detecting the water flow it expects.
One possible cause is an airlock.
Remove the water filter, make sure the tank is full and properly seated, then try running the hot-water outlet several times. This can sometimes move trapped air through the machine and restore normal operation.
If it continues stopping and beeping, there may be a blockage, flow-related component, internal valve or another fault preventing the machine from moving or monitoring water correctly.
At that point, repeatedly restarting the same function is unlikely to solve it.
Why is my Sage Barista Pro steam wand not working properly?
If the steam wand is producing very weak steam, spitting water or has stopped steaming altogether, first rule out a blocked steam tip.
Allow the machine to cool, then use the steam-wand cleaning tool supplied with the machine to clear the opening in the tip.
If it remains blocked, use the spanner section of the tool to remove the steam tip, soak and clean it thoroughly, clear the opening again and refit it.
If the steam tip is clear but the wand still does not work properly, particularly if the hot-water outlet is also affected, the problem may be further inside the machine.
A blockage, internal valve, heating issue or another water-system fault can all produce similar symptoms.
Why is my Barista Pro grinder not grinding properly?
If your Barista Pro grinder is not delivering coffee, first check that there are beans in the hopper and listen to whether the grinder motor is actually running.
With the machine switched off and unplugged, remove the hopper and check the removable grinder area for compacted coffee, beans or foreign objects preventing the burrs from feeding correctly.
If the grinder runs but suddenly will not grind fine enough, the removable upper burr can also be adjusted to shift the overall grind range finer.
If the grinder does not run at all, or makes an unusual mechanical noise, or still does not grind correctly after cleaning and adjustment, there may be a fault within the grinder drive, switches or control system.
Is my Sage Barista Pro worth repairing?
In many cases, yes.
The Barista Pro is still a relatively high-value machine, and faults involving the water system, ThermoJet heating system, steam system, grinder, pumps or controls do not automatically mean the machine is beyond economical repair.
Even faults that stop the machine from producing water or cause an error can often be traced to an individual component or part of the machine rather than requiring the entire machine to be replaced.
At FMCM, if we canโt repair your machine, we donโt charge you for the repair, so it is usually worth having the fault properly diagnosed before replacing it.
