Expert Sage Creatista Plus repairs and servicing

On the Creatista Plus, the selector dial should move predictably through the drinks and settings menu.

If turning it one way causes the menu to jump backwards, skip items or move several steps unexpectedly, and that behaviour is consistent, the control will need to be repaired. There is not really a useful at-home fix for this type of fault.

On the Creatista Pro, the equivalent symptom may be a touchscreen that stops responding or behaves intermittently. If the screen is clean and dry but the problem is repeatable, the interface will need to be inspected.

If the milk gets warm but has very little foam or aeration, first check the milk itself and the steam setup before assuming the machine has failed.

Use cold milk, ideally around refrigerator temperature, make sure the jug is positioned correctly over the temperature sensor and check that the selected froth level has not been reduced.

Then clean the steam wand and tip thoroughly.

If the machine produces strong steam but repeatedly heats without properly introducing air into the milk, or the result suddenly changes despite using the same milk and settings, there may be a fault within the automatic steam-control system rather than simple user setup.

The Creatista monitors the steam system and can display a Clean Steam Wand warning when it detects restricted steam flow.

Allow the wand to cool, remove the steam tip and clear every hole with the supplied cleaning tool. Clean the inside of the tip thoroughly before refitting it, then run the machine’s built-in steam-wand cleaning cycle.

If the warning returns after one or two drinks despite the tip being completely clean, the restriction may be further inside the steam system or the machine may be incorrectly interpreting another steam-flow fault as a blocked wand.

At that point, repeatedly cleaning the same tip is unlikely to solve the underlying fault.

First check that the water tank and drip tray are properly fitted and not cracked or overflowing.

Some water in the capsule container or drip tray can be normal, but water running underneath the machine or a large amount collecting in the used-capsule bin is not.

Leaks can develop from internal water connections, seals, pumps, the brewing head or parts of the steam system.

If the water is clearly coming from inside the machine, unplug it and allow it to cool rather than continuing to use it.

In many cases, yes.

Although the Creatista uses Nespresso capsules, the machine itself still contains a substantial Sage-built water, heating, automatic steam and control system.

A fault with the selector dial, touchscreen, steam system, pump, internal leak or heating circuit does not automatically mean the complete machine needs replacing.
