Common problems with the
Sage Oracle Dual Boiler

Sage Oracle Dual Boiler coffee machine

These are some of the Sage Oracle Dual Boiler faults we see regularly. Start with the symptom closest to yours.

Screen freezes or machine restarts during use

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

The touchscreen may freeze, the machine may suddenly restart, or the display may go black during extraction or steaming before booting back up.

It may happen intermittently at first.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Make sure the machine has installed the latest available software.

If the machine repeatedly restarts after it is fully updated, stop repeatedly testing it under load.

There is not a meaningful user-serviceable fix for a persistent restart fault.

HOW WE CAN HELP

Repeated restarts can involve software, the display or control system, power electronics or another component drawing the machine outside its expected operating conditions.

We can test whether the restart is originating from the user interface itself or is being triggered by another system within the machine.

Automatic tamping or extraction is inconsistent

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

One puck may be properly tamped while the next looks uneven or incomplete.

Shot times may also vary significantly even though you have not intentionally changed the settings.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Remember that Auto Dial-In can intentionally change the grind setting after an extraction.

If the physical tamp itself looks wrong, remove and clean the tamping fan and grind outlet following Sageโ€™s instructions and make sure the fan is correctly refitted.

If the mechanism is clean but consistently produces uneven or incomplete tamps, further adjustment is unlikely to solve an actual mechanical or control fault.

HOW WE CAN HELP

The machine combines a grinder, motorised grind adjustment, automatic dosing, tamping and electronic extraction monitoring.

We can test those systems individually to identify whether the inconsistency originates from the grinder, dose, tamp mechanism, sensors or automatic control.

No water from the group head

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

The machine may appear ready and the pump may operate, but little or no water comes through the group head.

The screen may also report that the water tank is empty even though it contains water.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Remove the portafilter and test the group head with nothing fitted.

If water flows normally, try a slightly coarser grind.

If there is still no water, fill the tank and make sure it is fully inserted and locked.

Run the group head for approximately 30 seconds followed by the hot-water outlet for approximately 30 seconds to prime the system.

If the machine still cannot move water, stop repeatedly running the pump.

HOW WE CAN HELP

Persistent loss of water flow can involve the pump, valves, internal water path, flow sensing or the control system.

We can test the different water routes and determine where the flow is being interrupted.

Steam weak or Auto MilQ not frothing properly

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

Milk may become hot but remain fairly flat.

Steam may be weak, take much longer than normal or stop completely.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Check the selected milk type, temperature and texture level.

Allow the wand to cool and thoroughly clean the steam tip.

Use the machineโ€™s Clean Steam Wand or Deep Clean Steam Wand routine if required.

If the tip is definitely clear but performance remains poor, avoid continually extending the steam cycle.

HOW WE CAN HELP

The problem can sit in the steam path, steam boiler, valves, temperature sensing or Auto MilQ control system.

We can test actual steam output and temperature behaviour to separate a simple restriction from a heating or control fault.

Boiler fault, not heating or steam coming from the group head

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

One part of the machine may remain cold, the machine may fail to reach ready temperature, or brewing or steaming performance may disappear entirely.

In more unusual cases, steam may come through the group head.

SAFE NEXT STEP

If the machine simply fails to heat once, switch it off and allow it to cool.

If the heating problem returns, or steam begins coming from the group head, stop using the machine.

HOW WE CAN HELP

The Oracle Dual Boiler contains separate espresso and steam boilers, temperature sensors, water-level control and substantial electronic management.

A fault in one area can prevent the machine heating correctly or cause water and steam to be routed incorrectly.

We can test the boilers, sensors, valves and control system to establish which part is failing.
