Sage Oracle Coffee Machine

Is this your machine? The Sage Oracle combines an integrated grinder and automatic tamping system with separate brewing and automatic milk-steaming functions.

Oracle FAQs

Why is no water coming through my Sage Oracle group head?

First remove the portafilter and check whether water comes through the group head with nothing fitted.

If water flows normally without the portafilter, the machine may simply be choking on the coffee. If the shot only drips or does not flow, try a slightly coarser grind before assuming there is a machine fault.

If there is still little or no water with the portafilter removed, make sure the water tank is full, pushed fully into position and locked correctly.

Check whether the hot-water outlet and steam wand still work as well. If those still operate normally but the group head does not, the problem is more likely to be isolated to the brew-water path.

If flow has gradually reduced, a descale is worth trying. If the fault remains afterwards, it may involve a blockage, pump, valve or another internal water-system component.

Why is my Sage Oracle grinder or automatic tamping not working properly?

The Oracleโ€™s grinder and automatic tamping system work together, so a fault in either can affect the dose delivered into the portafilter.

If the grinder runs but the basket is not filling properly, first make sure there are beans in the hopper and check for compacted coffee or residue in the accessible grinder area.

If the grinder appears to run continuously, check that the tamping fan is fitted correctly to its drive shaft.

A build-up of coffee inside the grinder or tamping chamber can also interfere with the mechanism.

If the grinder does not start, repeatedly jams, the tamping fan is not turning correctly, or the dose and tamp behaviour suddenly become inconsistent after cleaning, there may be a mechanical or electrical fault within the grinder or tamp system.

Why is my Sage Oracle steam wand weak or not producing steam?

If steam becomes weak or stops completely, first rule out a blocked steam tip.

Allow the machine to cool and clear the steam-tip holes with the supplied cleaning tool.

If the tip is completely clear but there is still little or no steam, particularly if hot water or heating performance has changed as well, the fault is likely to be further inside the machine.

Possible causes include the steam heating system, internal valves, steam solenoid, sensors or the electronics controlling the steam system.

What does ERR mean on a Sage Oracle?

An ERR message means the machine has detected a fault serious enough that it cannot continue operating normally.

If the error is persistent, there is not a safe at-home repair we would recommend. Avoid repeatedly resetting the machine or continuing to use it.

An ERR message can relate to several different systems, so the code or message should be diagnosed rather than assuming a specific part has failed.

Is my Sage Oracle worth repairing?

In most cases, yes.

The Oracle is a relatively high-value machine with separate grinder, automatic tamping, brewing, heating and steam systems.

A fault affecting one of those systems does not automatically mean the complete machine needs replacing.

Even fairly serious symptoms such as no water, failed steam, grinder or tamp faults, internal leaks or electronics issues can often be traced to an individual component or subsystem.

At FMCM, if we canโ€™t repair your machine, we donโ€™t charge you for the repair, so it is normally worth having the fault diagnosed before replacing the machine.
