Common problems with the
Sage Oracle

These are some of the Sage Oracle faults we see regularly. Start with the symptom closest to yours.
COMMON SYMPTOMS
What is your Oracle doing?
No water through the group head
WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE
Your Oracle sounds like it is trying to brew, but little or no water comes through the group head. The hot-water outlet and steam wand may still work normally.
SAFE NEXT STEP
Remove the portafilter and check whether water comes through the group head with nothing fitted.
If water flows normally without the portafilter, try a slightly coarser grind, as coffee that is ground too fine can choke the machine and stop the shot flowing.
Make sure the water tank is full, correctly seated and locked into position. Check whether the hot-water outlet and steam wand are still working as well.
If flow has gradually become weaker, carry out a descale following Sage guidance. If there is still no group-head flow afterwards, avoid repeatedly running the brew pump for long periods.
HOW WE CAN HELP
If hot water and steam still work but the group head does not, the fault is more likely to be isolated to the brew-water path.
A blockage, internal valve, pump or another water-flow component can all cause similar symptoms. We can test the brew-water path and pressure to identify exactly where the flow is being interrupted.

Grinder or automatic tamping not working
WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE
The grinder may run but deliver too little coffee, fail to grind at all, run continuously or behave inconsistently from one dose to the next.
The automatic tamping fan may also fail to turn or the coffee may not be tamped correctly in the portafilter.
SAFE NEXT STEP
Turn the machine off and unplug it before checking the grinder area.
Make sure there are beans in the hopper and check the accessible grinder and tamping area for compacted coffee or an obvious obstruction.
If the grinder appears to run continuously, check that the tamping fan is fitted correctly to its drive shaft.
Do not force the burrs or dismantle the grinder motor or tamping mechanism.
HOW WE CAN HELP
The Oracleโs grinder and tamping system work together, so faults in either system can affect the dose delivered into the portafilter.
Problems can be caused by a jam or build-up, but also by grinder switches, the drive system, tamp-fan components, wiring or electronics. We can inspect and test the complete grinder and tamping assembly and repair the underlying fault.
Steam wand weak or no steam
WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE
The steam wand may produce very weak steam, spit mostly water, take much longer than normal to heat milk or stop producing steam altogether.
SAFE NEXT STEP
Allow the machine to cool and clear the steam-tip holes using the supplied cleaning tool.
If necessary, remove the steam tip, clean it thoroughly and refit it.
If the tip is completely clear but steam is still weak or absent, stop repeatedly running the steam function.
HOW WE CAN HELP
A blocked steam tip is the simplest cause, but the Oracle also has a dedicated steam system with valves, heating components, sensors and control electronics.
We can test the steam boiler and steam path to identify whether the fault is a restriction, valve, heating or control issue.

ERR message on the display
WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE
The Oracle may show ERR on the display and may stop operating normally or prevent one or more functions from running.
The message may be intermittent at first or remain on the screen.
SAFE NEXT STEP
If the ERR message is persistent, there is not a safe at-home repair we would recommend.
Stop using the machine and arrange for it to be inspected rather than repeatedly resetting it or continuing to run it.
HOW WE CAN HELP
An ERR message means the machine has detected a reading or operating condition outside its expected range.
The cause can sit in several different systems, so the message needs proper diagnosis rather than replacing a part based on the error alone.
We can test the relevant sensors, heating, water-flow and control systems and identify the underlying fault.
Water or steam leaking inside the machine
WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE
You may hear persistent hissing once the machine is hot, see steam escaping from inside the case, notice condensation around the controls or find water underneath the machine.
The leak may only become obvious once the machine is fully heated and under pressure.
SAFE NEXT STEP
If you can see steam or water escaping from inside the machine, switch it off and unplug it.
Allow it to cool fully before moving it.
Do not continue using it simply because the leak appears small, as hot-water or steam leaks can worsen and may affect nearby electrical parts.
HOW WE CAN HELP
The Oracle contains multiple pressurised water and steam connections, valves, seals and heating components.
The place where water appears does not always identify where the leak started. We can test the machine while hot, trace the actual source and inspect surrounding components for any secondary damage.
