Common problems with the
Sage Duo Temp Pro

Sage Duo Temp service and repair

These are some of the Duo Temp Pro faults we see regularly. Start with the symptom closest to yours.

No water through the group head or steam wand

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

Your Duo Temp Pro makes its normal pumping noise, but little or no water comes through the group head.

You may also find that selecting hot water or steam produces little or nothing from the steam wand.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Check that the water tank is full and pushed fully into position.

If you use a water filter, remove it temporarily and try the machine once without it to rule out a restricted filter.

If the flow has gradually become weaker, run a thorough descale.

If there is still no water from either outlet, avoid repeatedly running the pump for long periods.

HOW WE CAN HELP

When both the group head and steam or hot-water functions are affected, the problem is usually somewhere within the machineโ€™s main water path.

This can include a blockage, pump fault, valve issue or another internal restriction.

This is one of the Duo Temp Pro faults we see regularly. We can test the flow through the machine, identify where the water is being stopped and carry out the correct repair.

Here is a video example of a Duo Temp Pro with little or no water coming through the machine

Steam wand weak or not working

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

The steam wand may produce very little steam, take much longer than normal to heat milk, or stop producing usable steam altogether.

You may also find that the hot-water function is weaker than it used to be.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Allow the machine to cool.

Use the small pin on the cleaning tool supplied with the machine to clear the opening in the steam tip.

If it remains blocked, use the spanner section of the cleaning tool to remove the steam tip, clean the tip and its openings thoroughly, then refit it.

If the tip is clear but there is still little or no steam, the problem may be further inside the machine.

HOW WE CAN HELP

Weak steam can be caused by a simple restriction at the steam tip, but it can also be caused by a blockage, valve problem, heating issue or another internal fault.

We can test both the steam and hot-water functions to establish whether the problem is isolated to the wand or is affecting the wider water system.

Water comes from the steam wand when brew is selected

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

When you turn the control dial to make coffee, little or no water comes through the group head.

Instead, water may come through the steam wand even though you have not selected hot water or steam.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Return the control dial to standby and switch the machine off.

Once it has cooled, run a descale if one is due, as a restriction can sometimes affect how water moves through the machine.

If the machine continues directing water through the steam wand when brewing is selected, do not repeatedly try to force water through the group head.

HOW WE CAN HELP

This symptom tells us that the machine is capable of pumping water but is not directing it through the expected route.

That can point towards an internal valve, blockage or control problem rather than simply a failed pump.

We can test the different water paths and establish why the machine is sending water to the wrong outlet.

Water leaking from underneath or inside the machine

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

You may find water appearing underneath or behind your Duo Temp Pro while brewing, using steam or dispensing hot water.

The leak might start as a few drops and gradually become more noticeable.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Check that the water tank and drip tray are fitted correctly and are not cracked or overflowing.

If water appears to be coming from inside the machine, particularly if the leak is becoming significant or is near electrical components, stop using the machine and unplug it.

Allow the machine to cool before moving it.

HOW WE CAN HELP

There are several connections, seals, valves and water-carrying components inside the Duo Temp Pro where a leak can develop.

The point where water appears underneath the machine does not necessarily identify where it started.

We can inspect the machine while operating, identify the actual source of the leak and replace or repair the affected component.

Loud or continuous pump noise

WHAT YOU MAY NOTICE

Your Duo Temp Pro may suddenly sound much louder than normal when you try to make coffee, dispense hot water or use steam.

The pump may run continuously, and you may notice that little or no water is moving at the same time.

SAFE NEXT STEP

Check that the water tank contains enough water and is pushed fully into position.

If the tank has recently run completely dry, refill it and allow the machine a short period to cool before trying again.

If the loud pump noise continues and there is little or no water flow, stop repeatedly running the pump.

If possible, take a short video showing the noise and which function is selected.

HOW WE CAN HELP

A loud or continuous pump noise combined with poor water flow can indicate that the pump is struggling to move water, but the pump itself is not always the underlying cause.

A blockage, valve fault or other restriction can produce a similar symptom.

We can reproduce the noise, test the water flow and pressure and determine whether the problem is the pump or another part of the water system.
